VMware: Troubleshooting
Intended for use with Cassatt Active Response V5.0.
The following material outlines problems you may encounter with VMware ESX Server base tiers in your Cassatt Active Response environment, along with the steps to solve those problems.
Ping monitoring shows false failures
Description
Ping monitoring shows false failures for nodes in the ESX base tier, causing unneeded node replacements.
Resolution
Increment the ping retry value for the image until the problem goes away.
Increasing the retry value increases the time to detect true network problems.
An ESX image does not activate completely
Description
When activating an ESX tier, one or more of the following occurs:
- SNMP monitoring does not work
- VMs do not inventory
- The VMware web interface doesn't start
- The ESX remote console doesn't work
Resolution
ESX images require local disk with temp enabled. Make sure the image and the tier both have these settings selected.
If you have already allocated the tier, deallocate the tier to make the hardware requirements editable.
