The Collage managed environment is composed of the following elements:

• Control Node—Server on which Collage software is running
• Application Node—Server running application software that is managed by Collage
• Tier—Group of application nodes running the same software image
• Pool—Nodes available for assignment or currently in maintenance
• Domain—Collection of application tiers that share the same resources

Application nodes

In the Collage managed environment, applications run without modification on application nodes. No Collage software is installed on an application node.

Control nodes

All Collage automation and management tasks run on the control node (or dual control nodes for redundancy), including: node monitoring, decision analysis, server discovery, allocation and reallocation, network booting, and management of the free and maintenance server pools.
